The Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge in the Minato ward of Tokyo. The bridge crosses Tokyo Bay, connecting the Shibaura district and Odaiba, and has a main span of 570 meters (1870 feet). Construction on the bridge began in 1987, and it was completed in 1993. The bridge lights up colorfully at night, which is the reason for its name and its popularity.
The bridge has two levels. Shuto Expressway No. 11 is on the upper level, while the lower level carries traffic from the road Rinkou Douro as well as the Yurikamome transit. The lower level also has two walkways, which were previously tolled but have been free since 2000. From November through March, the walkways are open between 10:00am and 6:00pm; during the rest of the year, they are open between 9:00am and 9:00pm. Bicycles and light motorcycles (less than 50cc) are not permitted on the bridge.
