Tokyo Tower is the world's tallest self-supporting steel tower at a height of 333m (1093 ft). It stands as the tallest structure in Tokyo, and is located in Shiba Park of the Minato ward. The tower primarily functions as a radio and television broadcasting antenna, but it is also popular for tourism and sightseeing.
The tower was modeled after the Eiffel Tower but only weighs about 4,000 tons despite being taller, due to technological advances in steel. It is painted white and international orange in accordance with air safety regulations. At night, floodlights illuminate the tower with orange light in winter and white incandescent light in summer. On special occasions, the tower may be illuminated with a different color.
