Tsubasa no oreta tenshitachi
Tsubasa no Oreta Tenshitachi is a short drama series that aired on Fuji TV in 2006. The series consists of four independent episodes, each based on one segment of the short story collection, "Tsubasa no Oreta Tenshitachi," by author Yoshi. Because the stories are independent, a different lead actress was chosen for each episode.
SYNOPSIS
The first episode, "Celeb," is based on the story "Celeb" (セレブ). Nanako Komine (Aya Ueto) hated being from a poor family, so after graduating from high school, she left her family and moved to Tokyo, where she began working as a courier. With dreams of leading a rich lifestyle, she visits a high-class boutique once a week, treating herself to expensive clothes so that she can feel like a celebrity. In order to afford this escape from reality, she keeps a second job: sleeping with men for money. "Live Chat," the second episode, is based on the story of the same name (ライブチャット). A girl who calls herself 'Yuna' (Maki Horikita) takes on a part-time job of chatting with men online through her webcam. In reality, this is her only true contact with others. Afraid of interacting directly with other people, she has shut herself off from the outside world because of her past. The third episode is based on the story "Actress" (女優). Nao (Yu Yamada) dreams of being an actress, but her father wants her to inherit his business as a doll-maker. The two get into a fight, and she runs away to Tokyo. She soon gets tricked out of her money by a fraudulent talent scout. Failing all of her auditions, Nao is forced to become a part-time hostess to stay financially afloat. But not even her boyfriend knows about her secret, a mistake she had earlier made out of her desperation to become an actress... In the fourth story, "Slot" (スロット), Ryoko (Juri Ueno) spends every day playing slot machines. Abandoned by her parents as a child, she desires to feel loved. When she finds her current boyfriend, a host, with another girl in their apartment, he reassures her that it's part of his job and that he only loves Ryoko. She can only force herself to accept his words. One day, she wakes up to see a young boy in the room, with a note from her boyfriend asking her to take care of the boy for a week... MUSIC
The series makes extensive use of background music. Most of the music is performed by artist Mika Nakashima, but songs by several non-Japanese artists are also used, including Björk, Jewel, Stina Nordenstam, and the Sex Pistols.
