On July 27, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (known as MOMAT) will open an exhibit in remembrance of recently deceased members of the film world. The museum runs this display every few years; this marks the event's 12th occurrence. Titled "In Memory of the Film Figures We Lost in 2004-2006," the new exhibit will focus on 80 people and 64 of their works.

Among the people remembered are actors, directors, and musicians, including Kyoko Kishida, Tetsuro Tamba, Tatsuya Mihashi, Jun Negami, Noboru Takaya, Yoshitaro Nomura, Teruo Ishii, Akio Jissoji, Akira Ifukube, and Hiroshi Miyagawa.

The exhibit, which includes film screenings, runs until September 26.

Technopop idol trio Perfume will appear in their first commercial starting next month. The ad is part of a public service campaign about recycling and environmental care, jointly sponsored by NHK and the Japan Ad Council. The campaign was first established in 2000, and every year has featured music artists such as Yuzu and Home Made Kazoku.

The commercial will feature them dancing and performing their new single, which will go on sale in September.

Perfume was formed in 2001, when the three female members were in grade school. They finally made their major label debut in 2005.

Red Yoshida of comedy duo TIM celebrated the birth of his fourth child on Friday. Along with the baby girl, Yoshida and his wife already have two sons (ages 9 and 5) and another daughter (age 2).

17-year-old Tantan Hayashi, who won the 11th All-Japan National Young Beauty Contest last year, has been chosen to play the female lead in a new movie by director Jianqi Huo. The film, titled "Zen," is a joint production between Chinese and Japanese studios.

This is the first movie role for Hayashi, who is half-Japanese, half-Chinese. The picture is slated for a fall 2008 release.

Actor Hideo Sakaki and singer-songwriter Izumi Sakaki (formerly Izumi Tachibana) announced that they are expecting their first child in November. The two have been married since December 2005.
