DJ OZMA held an urgent press conference on Thursday to announce that he is "retiring" at the end of this year. He said that ever since his boost of popularity in 2006 - the same year he caused controversy at Kohaku Uta Gassen with dancers who appeared to be naked - he has been on the decline, and he felt that he had reached his limit. He also mentioned that he hopes to continue producing artists and creating music. In addition, he said he would like to travel next year.
At the press conference, he introduced a man named Seigo Maki, whom he named as the successor to the DJ OZMA name. Maki is said to be a part-timer at a video rental store where DJ OZMA met him. However, it is not clear what Maki's role will be as the "second DJ OZMA."
DJ OZMA has one more single, titled "MASURAO," coming out on December 3, and an album "I LOVE PARTY PEOPLE 3" coming out on December 31. His last concert will be on December 13 at the Yokohama Arena.
The character of DJ OZMA is just one alter-ego of Show Ayanocozey (Sho Ayanokoji), who is also the leader of rock band Kishidan. He also recently formed the parody music group Yajima Biyoshitsu with comedy duo Tunnels.
