44th Galaxy Awards announced

The non-profit Japan Council for Better Radio and Television has announced the winners of its 44th Galaxy Awards, which covers the broadcast period of April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007.

In the television category, the Grand Prix was awarded to NHK’s special program, “Working Poor ~Hataraitemo Hataraitemo Yutaka ni Narenai” (broadcast on July 23, 2006). The Special Award was given to the production team of Fuji TV’s “Dr. Coto's Clinic” drama series, and the Individual Award went to actress Ryoko Shinohara for multiple roles.

In the other spectrum, MBS Radio’s “Tokushuu 1179” took the Grand Prix for its February 17 broadcast. Announcer Hiroshi Kume received the DJ Personality Award.

A Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks ad received the CM Grand Prix, and Kagoshima Yomiuri Television earned the News Grand Prix for its coverage of the Shibushi incident.

Additionally, this year saw the first My Best TV Award, which was determined by viewer votes. NHK’s short series “Hagetaka” won the prize.
