51st Japan Record Awards: EXILE, BIG BANG

The 51st Japan Record Awards show took place on Wednesday. For the second year in a row, the grand prize (the Japan Record Award) was given to the group EXILE for the song “Someday.”

EXILE was one of 11 candidates for the prize, who all received the “best song” award. The other candidates included GIRL NEXT DOOR, Ikimono Gakari, TVXQ, Kiyoshi Hikawa, Kumi Koda, and w-inds. In 2008, EXILE faced similar competition and won the Japan Record Award with the song “Ti Amo.”

Out of the four New Artist winners, BIG BANG earned the title of Best New Artist, becoming the first Korean group to do so. The other candidates were Maya Sakura, SCANDAL, and Hilcrhyme.

The rest of the awards were already revealed earlier this month.
