Actor-comedian Kanichi Tani dies at 74

Actor and comedian Kanichi Tani died of a cerebral hemorrhage on Monday afternoon. He was 74.

Tani made his TV debut as Gorohachi Fukuro, the assistant of detective Juro Iwai in the late 1950s series “Gekko Kamen” (“Moonlight Mask”). The next year, he formed the comedy trio 3 Pockets with Kiyoshi Atsumi and Keiroku Seki. The group later disbanded, and Tani continued acting on television and on stage until a few months ago.
