Actor Teizo Muta passes away

Veteran actor Teizo Muta, known for playing the father in the 1970s “Ken-chan” drama series, passed away on Thursday night at a Tokyo hospital. He was 80.

Muta collapsed in the bathroom of his home on Thursday evening and was found by his family. He was taken to the hospital, but he died shortly after.

Born in 1928, Muta graduated from Hokkaido University and joined the Theatre Echo troupe. He made his television and film debut during the mid-1960s. Aside from “Ken-chan,” he appeared in dozens of supporting roles, including parts in “3 Nen B Gumi Kinpachi Sensei” and the taiga drama “Genroku Ryoran.”

Muta was also very active as a volunteer worker in the Setagaya area of Tokyo, and in particular, he worked with ChildLine, a counseling hotline dedicated to children.
