Actress and producer Takiko Mizunoe dies at 94

Former actress and film producer Takiko Mizunoe passed away on the evening of November 16, it has been learned. She was 94 years old.

Mizunoe got her start in 1928 as a first-generation member of the Tokyo Shochiku Kagekibu, later known as the Shochiku Shoujo Kagekidan. She made a name for herself in 1930 when she dressed in top hat and tuxedo for her role in “Danso no Reijin,” a first for Japanese theater.

In 1953, Mizunoe became a movie producer for Nikkatsu and has been credited with cultivating stars such as actor Yujiro Ishihara. She worked on more than 70 films during her career, including “Taiyou no Kisetsu” (“Season of the Sun”) in 1956, before retiring from the entertainment industry in 1989.
