Kabuki actor Ainosuke Kataoka (38) held a press conference on Thursday to address a recent Josei Seven article alleging that he secretly has a wife and child. Kataoka stated that the article is largely true, and he apologized for his private life causing a stir.
Thursday’s issue of Josei Seven had revealed that Kataoka has a son who is in the 5th grade. The child and his mother, a 43-year-old hostess, currently live in Kyoto, but witnesses say that Kataoka had occasionally visited their previous home in Osaka.
During his press conference, Kataoka explained that he dated the woman for one or two years, about 12 to 13 years ago. He lived with her until about three or four months after their son was born. At the time, he was struggling to enter the kabuki world, and he decided to put his career first. Kataoka and the woman never married, and the child was never legally acknowledged as his own. Since then, he has been providing them financial support, and he only maintains contact with the woman through texts and e-mails when necessary.
When a reporter asked Kataoka whether he will legally acknowledge the child as his, the actor said that he would like to ask for the boy’s opinion after he grows a little older.
