Anime Expo 2010 hosts “Kisaragi” mystery play

Anime Expo 2010 announced that it will host the North American premiere of the theatrical play “Kisaragi” on July 2. The play, which is based on the award-winning 2007 movie of the same name (starring Shun Oguri), was first performed in 2009.

The story takes place one year after the suicide of an obscure idol name Miki Kisaragi, when five of her fans from an Internet message board arrange to meet up for a commemorative event. As they share their memories of the idol, it becomes apparent that her death was not a suicide after all.

The five-member cast consists of Mitsuru Matsuoka of the band SOPHIA (which is also holding a concert at Anime Expo), Nezumi Imamura, Yosuke Asari, Masahiro Usui, and Yuichiro Nakayama. This is the same cast that will be performing a new run of the play in Japan later this year. (Asari and Usui were not part of the cast in the original run of the play.)
