Charts: Kanjani8 takes top three
For the first time ever, a single artist has captured the top three spots on one of Oricon’s weekly sales charts. On December 23-25, Kanjani8 released an unprecedented three singles on consecutive days, and all of them eclipsed the competition.
Including Kanjani8, 8 artists have held the top two spots on the singles chart, and 19 have held the top two on the albums chart.
Their “
GIFT ~Shiro~,” the first to go on sale, led the way at 117,000 copies sold. It was followed by “
GIFT ~Aka~” and “
GIFT ~Midori~,” each of which sold about 114,000 copies. Besides them, the only other new singles in the top ten were from voice actress
Minori Chihara (#5) and hip-hop artist
SEEDA (#8).
On this week’s albums chart,
Ikimono Gakari took #1 with “
Hajimari no Uta,” selling over 200,000 copies.
flumpool ranked second, with about 90,000 copies of their new release “
What's flumpool!?”
Every Little Thing’s new best album came in at #4, while
UNICORN’s live album managed to make the #10 spot.
Also noteworthy was
EXILE’s “
Aisubeki Mirai e” at #5, which has now passed 1 million in sales in the four weeks since its release. This is their sixth million-seller. Of the albums released this year, they are the third to reach 1 million, joining the company of
Arashi’s “
All the BEST! 1999-2009” and
GReeeeN’s “
Shio, Kosho.”
