Charts: TVXQ sets new record

Korean boy band TVXQ claimed #1 on the single charts this week, selling 256,000 copies of their “BREAK OUT!.” According to Oricon, that number is the highest first-week sales ever for a foreign artist. In addition, this is the band’s 7th chart-topper, extending their record for “most number-one singles by a foreign artist.”

The top ten this week also saw new releases from L'Arc~en~Ciel, AAA, FUNKY MONKEY BABYS, Yukari Tamura, Idoling!!!, Aqua Timez, and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.

On the albums chart, rock band HY led the way with “Whistle,” at more than 82,000 copies sold. abingdon boys school took the #2 spot, followed by the soundtrack for the Final Fantasy XIII video game. Mao Abe and BOOM BOOM SATELLITES were also in the top ten.
