“Dango 3 Kyoudai” singer Hayami Kentaro causes fatal car accident
Singer Hayami Kentaro (49), best known for the 1999 hit song “Dango 3 Kyoudai,” recently caused a fatal accident while driving his car, it has been learned. The accident resulted in the death of a 78-year-old female pedestrian, who passed away about 12 hours later due to hemorrhagic shock.
The accident occurred around 1:15pm on the afternoon of July 16, in Kawagoe, Saitama. Hayami was slowly making a right turn at an intersection, while the woman was crossing the walkway. Hayami’s car hit the woman as he turned, knocking her over. An officer who rushed to the scene, and at the time she complained of pain in her right hand, which was apparently broken. She was taken to a hospital, where she died at about 12:50am on July 17 from hemorrhagic shock caused by a wound to her chest.
Hayami was questioned shortly after the accident, and he stated that he had become distracted by something in the passenger seat, so he was looking away as he made the turn at the intersection.
The police said that they do not have plans to arrest Hayami, but they intend to send the case to the public prosecutor.
