Actress Eiko Koike (29), her husband and pro wrestler Wataru Sakata (37), and Koike’s management agency have filed a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against the company that operates the Sports Hochi newspaper. The suit claims that an article published by the newspaper in December was harmful to the couple’s reputation. As a result, the plaintiffs are seeking 280 million yen in damages.
On December 11 of last year, Sports Hochi published an article claiming that Koike and Sakata were on the verge of divorce due to Sakata’s large amount of debt. However, Sakata completely denied the rumors of divorce at the time, and he has since then continued operating his restaurant, which was said to be the source of his debt.
