Filming for the live-action “Grave of the Fireflies” movie started on Monday, and is scheduled to continue until the end of the month. It is being shot entirely in the Hyogo Prefecture, where the original novel takes place.
15-year-old Reo Yoshitake and 5-year-old Rina Hatakeyama play the main characters, a brother and sister struggling to survive alone near the end of World War II, after their father (Katsuaki Takahashi) leaves to serve the navy and their mother (Seiko Matsuda) dies in a firebombing.
