Former wrestler, politician enters comedy
Former pro wrestler Atsushi Onita is planning to enter the world of comedy.
In 2001, Onita was elected to the House of Councillors. After having served his six-year term, however, he announced his retirement from politics this past June. Now, he plans to try his hand at being a comedian, focusing on political humor and criticism.
Onita has already submitted his entry into this year’s
M-1 Grand Prix, a competition for manzai duos. He will be performing under the group name of “Fire” with a partner currently referred to as “Mister X” – Onita intends to keep the man’s identity a secret until the last minute.
The preliminaries for the M-1 Grand Prix begin next month.
