Fuji TV adapts “Samayoi Zakura” jury manga

With Japan introducing the “saiban-in” (lay judge) system in May, Fuji TV is capitalizing with jury-related dramas. The network already announced the series “Majo Saiban” starring Toma Ikuta, but it also plans to air a one-shot drama based on the manga “Samayoi Zakura.”

Originally serialized in the weekly magazine Manga Action, “Samayoi Zakura” is written by Mamora Goda (“Mori no Asagao”). In the drama adaptation, Atsushi Ito stars as Keiichi Aiba, a “net cafe refugee” who gets chosen as a juror in the trial of a 28-year-old NEET accused of killing three women.

The drama will be shot next month. Takashi Tsukamoto plays the role of the killer, while Rosa Kato plays a law student who is also selected for the jury. Fuji TV has tentatively scheduled the drama for this May.
