Glay wins lawsuit against former management

Rock band GLAY was awarded a victory on Thursday in their lawsuit against their former management company, Unlimited Group. The court affirmed that the band held the copyrights to 147 songs and ordered the company to pay 670 million yen.

GLAY had signed a contract with Unlimited Group in 1998, assigning them the copyrights to 147 songs, including hits such as “HOWEVER.” In 2005, GLAY canceled the contract due to unpaid royalties and contract fees.

The judge declared that GLAY’s termination of the contract was valid and that the band owned the copyrights to the songs. Unlimited Group is now required to pay the band approximately 670 million yen in unpaid royalties and fees.
