Following the recent success of "Dainipponjin," the first film by Downtown comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto, Yoshimoto Kogyo has established a new project. Within a year, the agency is aiming for 100 of its comedians to direct a short film.
On Thursday, the company announced the first wave of 26 works, which will begin screening on July 7 at Yoshimoto Kogyo's performance theaters. Directors include Yuichi Kimura, Shoji Murakami, Seiji Chihara, and 81-year-old rakugo artist Matsunosuke Shofukutei II.
Approximately 500 million yen has been budgeted for the entire project.
