Erika Sawajiri's single "Taiyou no Uta," which is also her debut as a singer, has achieved impressive numbers. The song and its accompanying track, "Stay with me," have both been available on the Chaku-Uta mobile download service since August 18 and July 28, respectively. The number of downloads has surpassed 500,000, which is 100,000,000 yen in sales (200 yen per song). This sets Sony's record for sales prior to the release of a CD. The "Taiyou no Uta" CD went on sale on August 30 in Japan. Fans lined up outside record stores on Tuesday night for the release.
150,000 copies of the CD went out for the first shipping, which is extraordinary for a new artist these days. Additional shipments have already exceeded 50,000, which means that the CD should reach over 200,000 in sales in its first week.
