Singer and actress Sonim has been chosen to play the lead role of Kim in the musical "Miss Saigon." The audition process started last fall, with the musical's original Broadway producer Cameron Mackintosh participating in the selection.
The musical will begin its run next July at Tokyo's Imperial Garden Theater. It was last performed in Japan four years ago. The role of Kim has previously been played by actresses such as Minako Honda, Takako Matsu, and Rina Chinen. Chinen will again be part of the cast in the upcoming production.
