Pitcher Yu Darvish of the Nippon Ham Fighters has opted for Japanese nationality, which will allow him to represent Japan at next year's Olympics in Beijing.
Darvish, who is half-Iranian, half-Japanese, was holding dual citizenship. According to Japanese law, dual citizens are required to choose a single nationality by the age of 22. Darvish turns 22 next August.
