As expected, "Death Note: The Last Name" took the #1 spot at the box office this weekend, and in record fashion. Reaching an audience of approximately 970,000 viewers over the weekend, the film grossed more than 1.2 billion yen, which is the biggest opening weekend for a film this year. That record was previously held by "Umizaru: Limit of Love," which grossed 970 million yen during its opening weekend in May.
