On Thursday, 22-year-old Hiroko Mima was crowned as Miss Universe Japan. Originally from Tokushima, she is currently a 4th year student in the Department of Physical Education at Nihon University.
Since the age of 3, Mima learned the traditional Awa Odori dance. In school, she participated in the high jump, competing seven times at the national tournaments. She stated that if she hadn't applied for the Miss Universe competition, she was thinking of becoming a P.E. teacher.
Mima will represent Japan at the Miss Universe 2008 pageant in Vietnam on July 14, hoping to repeat the victory of Riyo Mori last year.
