Late Wednesday night, the younger brother of Hitomi Yoshizawa, the current leader of Morning Musume, died in a Tokyo hospital due to a traffic accident.
Kouta, age 16, was crossing an intersection in Shinjuku by bike at around 10:50pm on Wednesday night. He was hit by a car coming from the right side and was thrown onto the ground, hitting his head. He had stopped breathing by the time an ambulance arrived. He was taken to the nearest hospital, but was pronounced dead at 12:15am.
The driver, a 20-year-old male college student, suffered minor injuries. He was arrested, and was sent to a prosecutor on Friday.
Yoshizawa has taken a break from work since finding out about the accident. It is not yet clear whether she will be attending a concert scheduled for the 14th in Osaka.
