The film "Sakuran" (starring Anna Tsuchiya) has been selected to participate in the 57th Berlin International Film Festival. The movie will participate in the Berlinale Special as that section's opener. The screening is scheduled for February 9, almost two weeks before the film opens in Japan on February 24.
"Sakuran" is based on the manga of the same name by Moyoco Anno, which tells the story of a young Edo-era courtesan. The film is directed by first-time director Mika Ninagawa, the eldest daughter of renowned theater director Yukio Ninagawa.
