According to the Los Angeles Times, famed director Hayao Miyazaki will be making an appearance at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. He has never before appeared at the convention.
Miyazaki is already scheduled to visit the University of California, Berkeley, on July 25 to receive the Berkeley Japan Prize. He is also set to visit the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in Beverly Hills on July 28. In addition to those two events, Miyazaki will appear at Comic-Con, which is taking place July 23-26. He will reportedly present clips from his latest film, "Gake no Ue no Ponyo."
"Ponyo" opened in Japan last year and was the #1 release at the box office in 2008, earning more than 15 billion yen. "Ponyo" will see a theatrical release in the United States on August 14.
