On Friday, management agency Stardust Promotion announced a significant move in response to the recent show business drug scandals. The company said that it will begin conducting voluntary drug tests of the celebrities it represents, which include some of the biggest names in entertainment.
Stardust said that the tests would be administered with each person's permission. The company plans to use drug detection kits that are manufactured by a U.S. company.
Stardust's roster includes Takako Tokiwa, Yasuko Matsuyuki, Miki Nakatani, Yuko Takeuchi, Kou Shibasaki, Keiko Kitagawa, Kippei Shiina and Hayato Ichihara. Until very recently, the agency also managed Erika Sawajiri.
