Talento and gravure idol Saya Kazuki (26) is making her debut as a writer. On October 29, she will publish her first book, "Uranai x Tantei," a children's mystery story.
After winning the grand prize in the 2002 Miss Magazine competition, Kazuki has become known for her gravure work and her television appearances. However, she has also been an avid reader since childhood, especially of mystery authors such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jiro Akagawa, and Edogawa Rampo. Currently, she is said to be reading at a pace of about two books a month.
Kazuki's debut work "Uranai x Tantei" revolves around two brilliant classmates in junior high. One is the fortune-telling Nozomi Saotome, while the other is Sho Tachibana who has an IQ of 200. Together, the two solve a case of a kidnapped panda.
Kazuki worked with a team (dubbed the "Uranai Tantei-dan") to complete the novel, which runs about 200 pages in length. She met regularly with her collaborators to discuss the book, and she was put in charge of the character details, the plot summary, and the trick behind the mystery. One of the other people involved was mangaka Souta Kuwahara ("Kurenai Ouji"), who illustrated the book.
The manager of the project expressed hope of turning the novel into a series and possibly having it adapted as a movie or a television drama.
