Last month, actor Manabu Oshio (31) received a suspended 18-month sentence in his trial for the use of MDMA (ecstasy). However, it appears that the case is far from over, as police have issued a new arrest warrant for Oshio and two other people.
On August 2nd, Oshio used the drug in a Roppongi apartment with a hostess named Kaori Tanaka. According to Oshio, Tanaka had passed out and her condition worsened. Instead of calling for help, though, he notified his manager, who arrived at the scene. They later left the apartment, and the woman was eventually found dead.
Oshio initially stated that he had obtained the drugs from a friend, but he quickly changed his testimony, declaring that the drugs had come from Tanaka. But based on test results from the investigation, no trace of the drug was detected in Tanaka's hair, making it unlikely that she was a habitual user. Combined with other evidence, police believe that Oshio was the one who gave Tanaka the drug, and they are now planning to arrest Oshio on charges of distribution.
A separate arrest warrant was issued for Oshio's friend who is believed to be his supplier. The third warrant is for Oshio's manager, who will be charged with destruction of evidence because he disposed of Tanaka's cell phone on the night of the incident.
Police have also determined that Oshio had provided drugs to other women that he dated in the past. One of the women is said to be a currently popular model who appears in fashion magazines and television, though her name was not identified by the media. She is reportedly cooperating with police in their investigation.
