Ken Watanabe’s next overseas film will be Mikael Hafstrom’s “Shanghai,” produced by The Weinstein Company. The movie features John Cusack and Gong Li.
The story, set in the months prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, follows an American (Cusack) who returns to Shanghai, which is occupied by the Japanese. He discovers that his friend has been killed, but his investigation of the death leads him to a government cover-up.
