Kentaro Shimizu arrested again

Singer and actor Kentaro Shimizu (57) has just been arrested for suspected drug use, it has been learned. This is not his first run-in with the law, however – he has already been arrested five times before this, with four of them also on drug charges.

Police suspect Shimizu of using stimulants in his home earlier this month. On August 9, police questioned him near Tokyo’s Ueno Station, and he voluntarily took a urine test. After the sample turned up positive for stimulants, police took Shimizu into custody at around noon on August 18.

Shimizu made his debut as a singer in 1976 with the hit single “Shitsuren Restaurant.” Between 1983 and 2004, he was arrested four times for possession of marijuana and stimulants, and he served two prison sentences. In 2008, he was arrested for a hit-and-run car accident.
