Kohei Tsuka being treated for cancer

Playwright Kohei Tsuka (61) announced via fax on Monday that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. He is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.

Rehearsals have already started for his “Hiryuden 2010,” the latest production of the “Hiryuden” story. Past productions of the play have starred actress such as Ryoko Hirosue (29) and Yuki Uchida (34). This time, Meisa Kuroki (21) has been chosen to star.

The play will still open as scheduled on February 3 at the Shinbashi Enbujo. Tsuka’s assistant director has been recording the practices for him so that he can watch them at the hospital and give his feedback. In the fax he sent to the media, Tsuka commented that the rehearsals have become perfect, and encouraged audiences to enjoy the play.
