Koki Mitani announces new comedy flick

Writer and director Koki Mitani, who made last year’s hit “The Uchoten Hotel” (also known as “Suite Dreams”), has announced details of his next project. Due out next year, the film is titled “The Magic Hour,” starring Koichi Sato. Mitani confidently claims it is his funniest script, with a supposed rate of “three laughs per minute.”

A young man (Satoshi Tsumabuki) promises a crime boss (Toshiyuki Nishida) that he will bring him a hit man. Unable to find one, he tricks a third-rate actor named Murata (Sato) into doing the job. Believing that he has a major role in a movie, Murata embarks on his mission, all the while impressed by the lack of visible cameras.

Eri Fukatsu plays the boss’s mistress, and Haruka Ayase plays the love interest of Tsumabuki’s character.

With such a prominent cast, one of the largest constructed sets ever for a domestic film – taking up 3 studios, for a total area of approximately the size of a soccer field – and the claims about the script, Mitani is very optimistic about the movie’s success.
