Koreeda’s “Kuuki Ningyou” going to Cannes

The 62nd Cannes Film Festival has announced its lineup. Among the movies being screened at the festival is the upcoming film by director Hirokazu Koreeda. Titled “Kuuki Ningyou” (“Air Doll”), the picture is an adaptation of Yoshiie Goda’s manga about an inflatable doll that begins to experience human emotions, and it stars Korean actress Bae Doona (“Linda Linda Linda”).

“Kuuki Ningyou” will run in the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes.

Another film in the lineup is “Map of the Sounds of Tokyo” by Spain’s Isabel Coixet. The movie is set in Tokyo and stars Spanish actor Sergi Lopez with Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi. “Map of the Sounds of Tokyo” will be in competition for the festival’s top prize.

Cannes will open on May 13 and run until May 24.
