Kosuke Atari to make acting debut in Taiwanese film

Singer Kosuke Atari will make his acting debut in a Taiwanese film known as “Rainbow Seven” (original title: 海角七號). The story is about a band in a rural town, and Atari will play himself, as a famous singer who visits the town for a concert. His major debut single, “Sorezore ni,” will appear as an insert song in the movie.

The director, Samuel Wei, approached Atari about the role after hearing his music at an event in Taipei last December. Atari is already popular in Taiwan; his limited-release album in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China last November took the #1 spot on the Yahoo! Taiwan charts. His name also became recognized throughout Asia after Andy Lau covered “Sorezore ni.”

Atari will be filming in Taiwan for several days at the end of May. The movie is scheduled for initial release at the end of October, with releases throughout the rest of Asia (including Japan) starting at the end of its run in Taiwan.
