Kusanagi returns as face of digital TV campaign

SMAP’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi will be back in commercials promoting Japan’s digital TV transition. On Friday, he appeared at a ceremony marking the final two years before the transition is completed on July 24, 2011.

Kusanagi had been in commercials for the transition up until his unexpected arrest in April for public indecency. He was quickly taken off the campaign, replaced by a cartoon deer mascot named Chidejika. Now, Kusanagi’s request to be reinstated has been accepted, and he will reportedly be working for free.

At the ceremony, he expressed his regret at causing problems and his gratitude for being given another chance. He is stepping back into the role quickly, with new commercials expected to be on the air this September. He will also soon be reappearing on posters across the country.
