Management agency LesPros Entertainment is launching a charity project to help the disaster relief efforts in northeastern Japan. The “LesPros Happy-Chari Project” is starting with over 35 million yen in donations to the Japanese Red Cross, though more activities are planned in the future.

This year is the 20th anniversary of LesPros’ establishment. To celebrate, the company had been preparing for a social action project since last year. After the earthquake and tsunami hit on March 11, LesPros quickly decided to change the project to focus on helping the victims of the disasters.

To start off, the company is donating 20 million yen, while its staff and its managed artists are adding another 15.44 million yen, for a total of 35.44 million yen. The staff and artists will also be doing charity activities in various regions while raising more funds from the public.

Other plans include the sale of charity goods in collaboration with popular retailer Uniqlo. More details will be announced on the LesPros website, which has opened a special page with information and messages of encouragement from dozens of artists, such as Aragaki Yui, Hasegawa Kyoko, Nakamura Aoi, and Kawashima Umika.
