Mai Kitajima stars in first movie in 12 years

Actress Mai Kitajima has been given her first starring role in a movie in 12 years.

Described as a “love suspense” flick, the work is called “Hito ga Hito wo Aisuru Koto no Dou Shiyou mo Nasa,” which loosely translates as “The Helplessness of Love.” Kitajima takes on the role of a popular actress married to another actor. Concerned about her husband cheating on her, she spends every night in town posing as a prostitute.

The film, directed by Takashi Ishii, is slated for release in September.
