“Mainichi Kaasan” supporting cast unveiled

The movie “Mainichi Kaasan,” based on an autobiographical manga by popular writer Rieko Saibara, had more of its cast revealed on Monday. It was already announced in July that the leads are being played by divorced couple Kyoko Koizumi and Masatoshi Nagase, but several more names have now been added.

Distributor Shochiku has stated that this is the first Japanese film in which a real divorced couple (Koizumi and Nagase) play a married couple on screen. Koizumi plays the part of manga artist Rieko Saibara herself, with Nagase playing the husband Kamoshida. Their mutual friend, an editor named Gonzo, is being portrayed by Arata Furuta, while Nao Omori plays Shimada, the editor in charge of Saibara.

Child actors Kosuke Yabe and Mau Konishi have been cast as Saibara’s son and daughter, respectively. Terue Shoji, Tomoko Tabata, Ken Mitsuishi, Sawa Suzuki, Rie Shibata, Akira Hokuto, Tamae Ando, and Kyoko Toyama will also appear.

“Mainichi Kaasan” is being released on February 5, 2011.
