In March, actress Manami Konishi released her first single “Sunny Day,” a song written for her movie “Sweet Rain: Shinigami no Seido.” It entered the charts at #10 and continued to sell fairly well, but now the song has found even more popularity overseas, particularly in Taiwan, where “Sweet Rain” opened at the end of April.
On Taiwan’s Yahoo! Music charts for Japanese and Korean music (based on data from the site KKBOX), Konishi achieved #1 this past week, beating out tunes by Hikaru Utada, Yui Aragaki, and Kou Shibasaki. On the daily charts, it had debuted on May 10 at #4 but climbed to its current #1 spot two days later.
