Mariya Takeuchi to appear on TV after 26 years

Singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi will make her first television appearance in almost 26 years when she appears on the new NHK music show, “SONGS” (Wednesdays 11:00pm).

“SONGS” is a 30-minute program geared towards adults in their forties and fifties. Each week will feature a particular artist, and Takeuchi has been chosen for the inaugural episode on April 11.

Takeuchi, who is now 52, married musician and producer Tatsuro Yamashita in 1982, and shortly after that she had a child. Since around that time, she has not appeared on television.

Takeuchi’s appearance on “SONGS” will include her new song, “Jinsei no Tobira.” It is one of the lead tracks on “Denim,” her first original album since 2001. The album goes on sale on May 16.
