Medama Oyaji voice actor dies at 77

Veteran voice actor Isamu Tanonaka died of a heart attack on Wednesday, January 13. He was found at his home in Setagaya, Tokyo, by family members. He was 77.

Mainly cast in television anime, Tanonaka started his career in the 1960s. He was best known for voicing the Medama Oyaji character throughout the “Gegege no Kitaro” anime series, starting back in 1968. Other credits include Gara in “Dr. Slump” and Mucha in “Mazinger Z.” His last work was in the NHK animation “Marie & Gali” last September.
