Miho Kanno to lead “Gene Waltz”

Miho Kanno (32) will star in the movie “Gene Waltz,” an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Takeru Kaido (“Team Batista no Eikou”). The film is being directed by Kentaro Otani (“NANA”).

The story centers on a doctor named Rie Sonezaki (Kanno), known as the “Joan of Arc of the obstetrics world” for her willingness to risk her career in order to help women who want to have a baby. The film focuses on the controversial issue of surrogacy, which some believe should be banned in Japan.

Seiichi Tanabe plays one of Sonezaki’s superiors who is also trying to change the current system. Other cast members are Miho Shiraishi, Nana Katase, Kaho Minami, Jun Fubuki, and Ruriko Asaoka.

“Gene Waltz” is expected to be released next fall.
