“Mori no Asagao” drama to star Atsushi Ito, ARATA

It was announced earlier this month that Mamora Goda’s award-winning manga “Mori no Asagao” is being turned into a live-action drama. Now the cast has been revealed, with actor Atsushi Ito (26) playing the lead role. The show will also have ARATA (35) in his first appearance in a drama series on a commercial broadcaster.

The drama depicts the unlikely friendship between a rookie prison guard and a criminal on death row. Ito will play the part of the guard, Naoki Oikawa, while ARATA will play the criminal, Mitsuru Watase. Yu Kashii (23) has been cast as the guard’s girlfriend.

“Mori no Asagao” will be aired by TV Tokyo starting in October. The network has scheduled it for a Monday 10:00pm time slot, making it TV Tokyo’s first drama series in a prime time slot since 2000.
