Nishimura Kenta’s novel “Kueki Ressha” is getting a movie adaptation, starring popular actor Moriyama Mirai (27). The movie is being directed by Yamashita Nobuhiro (“Linda Linda Linda,” “My Back Page”).
“Kueki Ressha” won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize for the second half of 2010. Set in 1987, the story depicts the life of a 19-year-old boy named Kitamichi who left home after graduating from junior high school. Burdened with his past and his sex offender father, he has no friends nor romance in his life. He works a manual labor job at the harbor for a wage of 5,500 yen a day. One day, he meets Kusakabe, a student at a vocational school. Friendship begins to develop between the two young men, but Kitamichi becomes jealous of the fact that Kusakabe has a bright future ahead of him.
Kora Kengo (24) will play the role of Kusakabe.
Filming began on November 25. Theatrical release is planned for 2012.
