This year marks the 25th anniversary of pop singer Akina Nakamori’s debut. She already released a cover album in January and a best album in March, but now she has her sights set on something different. Nakamori will be recording an enka cover album, with a target release date of June 20. This is the first time a pop singer has released such an album.
The album is titled “Enka” (this “enka” means “troubadour”). The songs will be chosen by her fans through an online vote, with choices including works by Sayuri Ishikawa and Masako Mori. Recording is scheduled to begin next month. Akira Senju is in charge of the sound production.
