New group twenty4-7 does theme for TIFF-invited “Yomei”

Female hip-hop duo twenty4-7 has been appointed to do the theme song for Stardust Promotion’s first movie, “Yomei.” First unveiled in June, the film stars Yasuko Matsuyuki and Kippei Shiina in a story about a couple who finally conceive a child, but face a difficult decision when the wife’s breast cancer relapses.

twenty4-7 is composed of two women from Osaka who formed in 2004. Last August, they finally achieved their major label debut through Avex’s Rhythm Zone.

The movie’s director, Jiro Shono, happened to hear their song “Get A Life,” which was originally from their days as an indie group. Apparently, the song suited the movie well, and Shono suggested it as the theme song.

“Yomei” opens theatrically on February 7, but it has also been given a spot in the “Japanese Eyes” showcase of the Tokyo International Film Festival, which starts on October 18.
